I see there is an on-board barometer on the BeerBotz Interface, but from I what I can tell it is not used? Why is it there?

Through the development of the interface, there were a few air meters considered. The AWM-type meters that were decided upon are nice because they give the CO2 results directly in mass, not volume. Mass is what we need to calculate the specific gravity drop during the batch.

If a volume-type (volumetric) air meter is used, you have to use the gas equation (PV-nRT) to get the mass. This would require the current pressure (barometer reading) and the gas temperature.

So, although the barometer data is not needed right now for the specific gravity calculation, it can be useful to:

1) change the reading from the AWM meter to the actual observed (volumetric) quantity, or

2) to possibly support future volumetric-type gas meters, and still enjoy the benefits of using the specific gravity calculation.
